Fazenda São Bento is part of the regional history of the Chapada dos Veadeiros, emerging as a country estate around 1840. Its lands belonged to Cavalcante County, a gold mining center, whose mines were discovered and explored in the 18th century.

In the mid-1920s the estate was bought by geologist Rodolfo Pfrimer as a support center for the rock crystal exploration work.

This was  when a village called Veadeiros appeared, today called Alto Paraíso.

Some years later, in 1933, the young Austrian Walter Pfrimer arrived in Brazil to join his uncle Rodolfo. He settled in São Bento Estate, which was part of the local crystal extraction and trade.

Since 1937 the growing worldwide demand for crystal intensified its exploration. A number of mining villages appeared in Goiás.

Large crystals were found in the area centered on Veadeiros, two of which were remarkable with 42 and 48 kilos each, as witnessed by Walter Pfrimer.

In 1947, there was a milestone in the history of São Bento Estate. The committee in charge of studying the site for locating the new capital of Brazil was welcomed and stayed there. A aircraft runway was opened by the Pfrimers. For the very first time an airplane landed in the vast region of Chapada dos Veadeiros.

In the Pousada Fazenda São Bento, centuries-old fruit trees still blossom, which are part of its large orchard. It would produce fruit of a temperate climate there, noble fruit (pears, apples and strawberries) and tropical fruit such as mangoes, jackfruit, quince and so on.

The influxes from building Brasília opened a new phase for the estate. The national input production helped the upgrade of rural activities. Fazenda São Bento was restructured with the installation of modern equipment and the business flourished.

Through the harmony of the group of natural elements forming its estate, São Bento is one of Nature’s blessings. Considering the life flourishing there since time immemorial, the estate is testimony to the history of this area in Goiás. The energy potential that nourishes its dynamics today assures it an incomparable position for the growth prospects of the emerging regional ecotourism.
